About Maverick Hockey

Maverick Hockey is a dedicated hockey organization based in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, with a strong focus on nurturing young hockey talent. Our mission is to foster both the athletic and personal development of young players through a structured, team-oriented environment.

At Maverick Hockey, our goal is not only to enhance our players' hockey skills but also to instill values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship that will benefit them both on and off the ice.

Meet Our Staff

Nathan Saunders Owner and Head of Player Development at Maverick Hockey was born and raised on PEI. Nathan started off and played his entire junior hockey career with the Moncton Wildcats. Over a four-year junior career consisting of 261 regular season games and 38 playoff games he posted a very respectable +/- of 55 and an even more impressive 864 penalty minutes. He was a two-time QMJHL Allstar Team player and after Captaining the Wildcats in 2004/05 he received the Kevin Lowe Trophy for the Best Defensive Defenseman. Saunders was drafted 119th overall in the 2003 NHL entry draft by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and after junior hockey he played in the AHL, ECHL and most notably the Central Hockey League where he was a part of the 2008/09 Texas Brahmas Championship Team. Nathan returned home to Prince Edward Island to raise his young family after the 2015/16 season in the NLSHL.  His passion for the game lives on as he mentors young players and passes on the life lessons that the great game of hockey has taught him.

Curtis McGregor, Assistant Coach at Maverick Hockey grew up in Sherwood and played his minor hockey for the Falcons up until his U18 years where he played for the Cornwall Thunder now known as the Kensington Wild in the NB-PEI Major U18AAA League. Following his second season he had the opportunity to get a tryout with the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL. Curtis played his junior hockey with the Summerside Western Capitals and the Amherst Ramblers in the Maritime Junior Hockey League. Ever since his playing career has finished he has coached a variety of ages in hockey such as U13 AAA for 2 seasons, U15 AAA for 3 seasons and U18 AAA for 1 season all of which have been for the Central Attack Association. This past season he was an assistant coach/video coach for the UPEI Mens Hockey Team. This fall Curtis will be an assistant coach for Team PEI for Hockey PEI’s High Performance Program for the U15 level. This team will compete against fellow maritime provinces at the Atlantic Challenge Cup in October in Moncton, New Brunswick.
